Fluorescence Microscopy – DESIGN TO INTEGRATION
At Cairn we have a dedicated design and R&D team using industry standard mechanical, electronic and optical CAD software and complimented by our own machine workshop with the latest CNC and 3D printing equipment. Our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers are dedicated to product design and development in the fluorescence microscopy field. Please see portfolio below.
Lucia (custom) Faraday Cage
A researcher had a Newport VIS30/36 table (950mm x 750mm) and needed an electrically quiet enclosure for their electrophysiology experiments.
We modified our existing Lucia product to suit the Newport AV table. For electrophysiology requirements, an additional tri-metalic layer (Cu/Ni/Ag) was integrated into the fabric to block electromagnetic radiation over a wide range of frequencies offering a dual purpose light-shielding...
A researcher needed to simultaneously measure Luminescence and fluorescence on plants over a period of days.
We were able to modify our standard light tight Lumiscope to include a top-mounted camera port with in-built Optospin filter wheel to enable fluorescence measurements to be taken. We used filtered MacroLED heads for the illumination which were positioned around...
Dual Illumination/Emission Rig
A researcher needed to simultaneously measure fluorescence and reflected brightfield as part of a compact upright configuration.
We came up with a set of filters to allow all wavelengths to be transmitted and reflected without having to change filter cubes. In addition we added a rotatable/removable polariser and iris to improve image quality. For each of the...
Binder KT170 Incubator Modification
A researcher asked us to modify a Binder incubator to allow the external mounting of an imaging camera and the internal mounting of a dual wavelength LED illumination system using blue/red LED strips.
We have previous experience with this kind of requirement, with our very successful Alligator Incubator, so we were able to solve the researchers requirements with ease.
Nikon Lamphouse – TE200 Direct EPI Coupling
A researcher needed to fit a Nikon Lamphouse to the EPI port of their discontinued TE200 microscope.
We are often asked to make custom couplings for discontinued microscopes where spare parts are no longer available. In this case we had to remake the official Nikon adapter to suit our own direct coupling without losing any functionality.
Dual Infinity Cube
A researcher was using the Olympus UDP EPI layer on their BX51 microscope. They needed to bring in a laser system mounted on an AV table, of which the height could not be adjusted. They also needed this line to use a separate olympus filter cube with tip/tilt adjust.
We took inspiration from our current Infinity Cube product and came up with the Dual Cube version. The Dual Infinity Cube has tip/tilt adjust on 2 individual filter cubes (these can be either Olympus or Nikon) with a bypass position....
Infinity Cube With Slider And Safety Interlock
A researcher needed additional filter positions for their Infinity cube and a laser safety interlock cover.
We modified the standard Infinity Cube to incorporate a 4 position filter slider with a hall effect sensor on the removable filter cube cover. This is now available as an upgrade to the Infinity Cube as we had several other...
Open Frame Invert Microscope
A researcher needed an open frame invert microscope for training their students.
We came up with a design that allowed the user to perform fluorescence studies whilst imaging with any standard research camera. The prep is mounted on an XYZ stage plate. We used our own custom designed lens set for optimal...
