OptoLED Lite

Ultra Stable and Instantaneous Wavelength Switching

Recent developments in Light Emitting Diode [LED] technology have yielded devices that are both brighter and capable of operating at more different wavelengths than their predecessors.

The high stability and absence of harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation makes them an ideal choice for fluorescence and transmitted light microscopy. In common with our OptoLED, the Lite version has a modular design with a wide range of wavelengths and couplings to all popular microscopes.

Applications

  • Fluorescence microscopy
  • Brightfield and phase Contrast
  • Diferential Interference Contrast
  • Automated Live Cell Recording
  • Calcium imaging

Key Benefits

  • High Intensity
  • High Stability
  • Ultra fast vibration free switching
  • Long life (should never need replacing)
  • Low cost
  • Variable intensity – no need for ND filters
  • Minimal unwanted infrared (heat) output
  • Safe and environmentally friendly
  • More compact than traditional light sources
  • Two channel control as standard

Wavelength Options

The range of wavelengths available from ultra-bright LEDs covers the absorbance peaks of most fluorescence indicators. The table below shows the standard range, however we can also source more specialist devices (download information sheet).

The Evolution of the OptoLED Lite

In response to feedback from our customers, the OptoLED Lite has been re-engineered to make it easier to use and to better meet the needs of those researchers who don't require the full functionality of our OptoLED including sub цsec switching and zero drift. The Lite version has been modified from a single to dual channel controller which allows users to operate at two different wavelengths or to use one LED for brightfield and the second for fluorescence.

The second alteration involved moving the most commonly used controls to a remote slider unit for improved usability.

In summary, if the control voltage is modulated, the output from the LED can be changed within a few microseconds. The high stability 'instantaneous' vibration-free switching and intensity modulation are other key benefits in a wide range of applications such as combined imaging and electrophysiology. The facility to 'gate' the light source directly from the camera and thus only expose the specimen whilst the camera is integrating helps to reduce photo-bleaching and also prevents bleed-through during frame readout.

LED head upgrade

With LED technology constantly improving we would like to remind existing customers that we are able to upgrade your current LED heads for a small charge of £95 each.
The way in which our LED heads are designed means they are readily interchangable so if returned to us we can upgrade in a very short period of time.
