Photon counting modules
Photon counting photomultipliers are ideal for very low light studies especially bioluminescence.
For fluorescence spectrophotometry we believe that analogue detection using the integration method employed by our input amplifiers is simpler and more flexible, especially as light levels can vary greatly from one experiment to another. In order to support researchers who are measuring very small optical signals we do supply a photon counting module and software which would usually be integrated into a Cairn Darkbox or custom chamber.
Our system is based around the Hamamatsu H7360 tube, which offers dark counts of < 20cps and an upper detection limit of approximately 5 million cps. This is coupled with our own pulse counting electronics and software module, which runs under the Cairn Acquisition Engine.
