Analogue photomultipliers

Photomultipliers are relatively inexpensive, high sensitivity, detectors ideal for optical ion concentration measurements where high temporal and low spatial resolution are needed.  Used in conjunction with Cairn processing modules they are particularly suitable for use alongside electrophysiological recordings.

Cairn's standard bialkali photomultipliers are individually selected for high sensitivity and low dark-noise with optimal response in the green area of the spectrum where most ion sensitive probes are used.  The specification will usually far exceed the typical values shown in the datasheet below, and we are happy to provide details on request.

In addition to bialkali devices we also routinely supply tubes with S20 photocathodes for extended red response; please feel free to discuss your requirements.

All tubes are supplied in our own compact housing complete with integrated electronics and fast gating circuitry for use with flash photolysis.
