The Cairn Data Interface unit is a versatile interface between your PC and lab equipment. All front panel connections are BNC, with rear panel modules available to connect to any of our range of acquisition cards, the monochromator controller card or the photon counting card.

The interface can support acquisition cards with up to four DAC outputs and sixteen ADC inputs, together with two digital inputs and two outputs. Eight of the ADC inputs can be re-configured for digital I/O or DAC output if required.

The connections are arranged in five banks, four of which are dedicated to DAC output, ADC input, digital input and digital output. The fifth bank is programmable and can be configured for any purpose. There is an integral metering facility which can be switched to any channel of either the ADC input bank, or the programmable bank.

As with all our products we have included a large amount of flexibility, with the option of connecting to multiple cards. This could, for example, allow simultaneous photon counting and analogue signal acquisition through a single interface box. In the event of more than sixteen analogue inputs being required, multiple interface units can be connected together.
